Devotional: Beware of Grace Vampires 🦇

Beware of Grace Vampires 🦇

Scripture:
“Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!”
 — Romans 6:1–2
Grace is God’s undeserved mercy, freely given in Christ. It forgives sinners, restores the broken, and brings life where there was death.

But Scripture also warns that grace can be received wrongly.

A grace vampire is not someone who stumbles and repents.

A grace vampire is someone who consumes mercy while resisting transformation.

We see this pattern throughout Scripture:

Simon the Sorcerer wanted the power of the Spirit without repentance (Acts 8:18–23). He desired the benefits of grace, but not a changed heart.

The Corinthian man in sexual immorality claimed freedom while rejecting holiness (1 Corinthians 5). Paul rebuked the church for confusing grace with tolerance.

Those Jude warned about “perverted the grace of our God into sensuality” (Jude 4). They treated grace as permission, not power.

Ananias and Sapphira sought the appearance of grace-filled generosity without honesty or surrender (Acts 5:1–11).

In each case, grace was not absent — but repentance was.

True grace does more than forgive the past.
It reshapes the future.

This warning is not meant to condemn others, but to examine ourselves.

Do I seek God’s mercy while guarding my sin?

Do I want grace to cover me, but not change me?

Grace is not blood to be drained.

It is life to be lived.

A Prayer:
"Lord, guard my heart from cheap grace.
Give me repentance that is real,
faith that obeys,
and grace that transforms.
Let Your mercy not only forgive me,
but remake me."

Amen.
